Google Now has probably been one of the best features the company brought to Android over the last few years, and today it's getting a big update. The company just announced that it will now allow third-party apps to generate cards in Google Now, which means the service has the potential to be a more comprehensive home what's happening in your life than ever before.

A whole list of the 40 different apps that Google Now currently supports can be found here, but some of the most noteworthy inclusions are Airbnb, Pandora, The Guardian, Lyft, Ebay, Waze, and Ford. You'll only see information from these third-party services if you have the app installed, and for now this third-party app integration will only work on Android.

"First Contact" by Keiji Yamagishi ⊟

One of the perks of my job at Tiny Cartridge is that sometimes people send me cool music. Sometimes, like, I’ll just get a whole album dropped on me containing new music by Ninja Gaiden composer Keiji Yamagishi, thanks to Brave Wave (who is also a Club Tiny sponsor, FYI!)

Yamagishi’s album Retro-Active Pt. 1 comes out February 5, and you can hear the first track right here. It was officially revealed in this gigantic Polygon feature, where you can also read all about a reunion between Yamagishi and other Ninja Gaiden staff. You can even see the original artwork for the castle scene at the bottom of our website.

Anyway, back to the album. I’ve listened to it a few times; I put headphones on one of my 20-month-olds and had her check it out. Man, what an exciting, upbeat album. It’s not entirely chiptune, it’s chip plus other instruments for what Yamagishi calls ”futuristic emotional chiptunes world.” There’s a lot of dancing in this world, or in my case a lot of energetic housecleaning.

After hearing this, I’m pretty dang happy to learn that there are going to be two more of these albums in 2015.

Avid's Pro Tools software is not cheap, something the company seems to have realized with a new, completely free version of its digital audio studio with a more limited feature set. The new version is called Pro Tools First, and when it ships sometime in the next couple of months, it will give musicians a way to use Avid's software without subscribing to any services or having to buy any hardware. It's a different approach from what Avid was doing with Pro Tools Express, a similarly feature-limited version of its software that was bundled with its Mbox hardware.
